Fun day out at the beach with loads of activities to do, from catamaran rentals to an open air gym made from old tank parts!
Feeling a bit jealous of looking at people lazing around on a beach made me check out the Hydropark in Kiev. Summer’s can get really hot in Kiev and for these types of days, the best place to head down to this old style recreational park. It’s also really easy to get to, as the metro station is close by on the Venetian Island. Locals after regular flooding in the 19th Century started the call the island Venice, hence the name the Venetian Island.
Things to do at the park
- Great restaurants especially during the summertime
- Good beaches which have volleyball courts on. These are all from free of charge.
- Boat and catamaran rentals
- People still swim, but it is officially prohibited due to cleanliness
- Ping pong and tennis courts
- Take a boat trip up the river
- Water Skiing
Events that take place at the Hydro park
The sand sculpture content takes place at the Hydro beaches. Sculptors from all over the world come to join in the contest. There are also music concerts and festivals that take place within the confines of the complex.
The Soviet era Gym
This gym is made of solely of old soviet industrial and tank parts. So instead of lifting weights, you heave up left over soviet contraptions. Two friends expertly put together the park in the 70’s who wanted an outdoor place to train. There is an indoor shaded area, where people even come out to train in winter.
